A small city built around a fortress built into the tail end of the mountains. During the war, the original city was wiped out, though most of the population survived, having been evacuated into tunnels inside the fortress. A noble of the Purple Lords, Prince Janyk Halcomb, led the survivors out and rebuilt the town.
After years of fighting off bandits and detachments of the old military, Prince Janyk died in combat. He left no heirs, and no clear line of succession, the late Prince’s counselors counselled with the more powerful merchants and arranged the first election. Over the following centuries, sufferage has expanded to include all land-owners. The system has worked steadily for centuries, though a few of the later rulers did attempt to place their progeny on the throne, they were generally removed without much blood-shed.
